Very nice (English Yew) Mantle clock with beautiful yew colouring & fitted with a skeleton movement. Would look great in any home/office setting and would make an Ideal gift for any occasion. Â
The Yew is traditionally and regularly found in churchyards of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Yews may grow to be exceptionally large and may live to be over 2000 years old. Some monks would plant yew in the middle of their cloister. Some very ancient yew trees are located at St Mary the Virgin church, Overton-on-Dee in Wales.
Yew is associated with England because of the Longbow, an early medieval weapon of war developed in Northern Europe. Yew is the wood of choice for longbow making, the heartwood is always on the inside of the bow.
Clock is finished in a clear Danish Oil which really highlights the Yews natural colours
